U-Box Load Share named Sustainability Service of the Year

Eco-friendly U-Haul service prioritizes efficiency, solves shipping hassles and saves money needed for families

PHOENIX, November 8, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — U-Box® Load Share, the latest green initiative from U-Haul®, has been awarded the 2022 Sustainability Service of the Year award by The Business Intelligence Group.

The directory Sustainability Award recognize organizations that have made sustainable practices an integral part of their business and commitment.

U-Box Load Share offers an environmentally friendly moving solution based on the principle of people helping each other. It promotes affordable and reliable residential moves while reducing costs for customers, fuel consumption, vehicle miles traveled and freight congestion on the roads, thereby reducing the carbon emissions created when transporting household goods. .

Additionally, the program complements the current shortage of truckers that has resulted in delivery delays and price increases.

“U-Box Load Share provides a collaborative service where people who already drive a U-Haul truck across the country or in another state can expedite another customer’s access to their goods in a safe and environmentally friendly way”, explained Sam Shoen, U-box manager. “This program aligns with U-Haul’s long-standing corporate goal of reducing costs for everyone who uses our products and services, while considering our environmental impact.”

Arrange for a one-way U-Haul truck customer to tow another customer’s truck U-Box container while they move eliminates the need for a 53ft cargo semi-trailer to haul the U-Box container to the same location.

This safe, collaborative and sustainable transportation alternative is closely monitored and managed by centralized U-Haul International staff. When this service is performed, the cost savings allocation is threefold:

  • A discount is offered to the customer who rents the U-Haul truck one way
  • A lower shipping rate is offered to all U-Box container customers
  • U-Haul can manufacture newer, safer equipment, and retrofit existing equipment with improved safety and convenience features

The Business Intelligence Group award adds to the growing list of accolades for U-Box Load Share. The program was also honored as a finalist in the PR News 2022 Social Impact Awards in the Community Affairs Organizational Mission category.

“We are proud to reward and recognize U-Haul for its sustainability efforts,” said Maria Jimenez, Chief Appointments Officer for the Business Intelligence group. “It was clear to our judges that their vision and strategy will continue to deliver results towards a cleaner, more sustainable world.”

Response to shipping delays

U-Box Load Share is a thoughtful response to today’s gig economy. It was formed after global shipping delays and supply chain disruptions caused slowdowns for customers receiving products, including U-Box containers. U-Box Load Share combats freight shipping disruptions and empowers customers to help each other.

A four-factor verification process is used to pre-screen potential candidates before the U-Box load-sharing option is presented to a client. The offer always depends on the customer’s comfort and ability to tow a trailer. U-Haul assumes responsibility for the customer’s personal effects in the U-Box container when this service is performed.

Allan Yangdirector of corporate sustainability at U-Haul.
