ZOLLIKON, Swiss and PFAFFIKON, Swiss, September 29, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Mondaine has been following the 3R rule for years: reduce, reuse, recycle. It applies to each area of activity: from the acquisition of raw materials to transport and production, operation of the head office and the factory, right to business travel. The result is a completely CO2 neutral company, including all of its watch brands. The main drivers of this approach are André and Ronnie Bernheimand decades of family tradition.
The brothers André and Ronnie Bernheim are co-owners of the Swiss SME with its four brands: Mondaine, Luminox, M-Watch and Pierre Cardin. The Chairman of the Board of Directors is André Bernheim. As Chief Sustainability Officer (CSO), he is also responsible for the sustainable development strategy. It makes sustainability a top priority and treats it as a strategic topic. Mondaine managers are convinced of this: sustainable development must be the absolute priority of any company. With its commitment to CO2 neutrality, Mondaine hopes to inspire other companies in the sector to do the same.
We care
Social, ecological and economic commitment is the guiding principle of Mondaine: We care. Mondaine’s track record of success is based on decades of systematic introduction and implementation of sustainable processes and products. As a leading international watch company, Mondaine is far ahead of its time in the development of environmentally friendly processes. The company has been guided by the 3R rule for many years: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. It applies at all levels: whether it is the acquisition of components, their transport and that of the watches, the production of the watches, the operation of the head office and the factory, as well as for business trips. Thanks to these considerable efforts, since 2020 the group and each of the four brands have been completely climate neutral (Scopes 1, 2, 3 [1]). But, on top of that, Mondaine – probably the world’s leading watch company – also offers a watch recycling service for all customers sending their watch to the Swiss factory – soon introducing this offer in other countries.
Global climate neutrality through reforestation
It is impossible to avoid CO2 emissions completely. This is why, in its management of sustainable development, Mondaine also includes compensation projects. For all unavoidable emissions, the group compensates with specific reforestation projects. Mondaine does this by maintaining solid and committed partnerships (Gula, Indonesia, www.gulagula.org, https://fairventures.org/, OAK in Pfäffikon, Swiss). This is how they managed to become completely CO2-neutral (Scopes 1, 2, 3).

2020: Thanks to compensation through reforestation, Mondaine is CO2-neutral (Scopes 1, 2 and partially 3).
2021: The ecological balance sheet now takes into account the shipment of products to direct customers worldwide (i.e. the extension of Scope 3).
Mondaine’s goals for the future
The Mondaine Group will continue its efforts in favor of sustainable development. Mondaine’s commitment to CO2-neutrality will continue, and they are even considering becoming a CO2-positive in the medium term. The systematic cradle-to-cradle approach to achieving a circular economy will be maintained by the group. Mondaine is currently exploring ways, for example, to make watch cases with a high content of recycled stainless steel. In a further step, since January 2022 Mondaine replaces animal leather straps with vegan grape leather straps. The Mondaine Group continues to be guided by the 3R rule – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. And they are encouraging their direct suppliers and customers to adopt a more sustainable approach as well.
