Support Adventure and Education with Scout Cookies

It’s officially Girl Scout cookie season!

And while the cookies are delicious, there’s another reason to consider buying a box or two from a local Girl Scout.

Along with the chocolatey goodness and memories that can come back when you take a bite of it, there are so many great reasons to track down a local troupe and place an order this year.

While most of us remember why we love Girl Scouts every January and February, Carlin Zawacki is grateful for her involvement in the organization every day.

“I like going to camps and doing activities,” she said. “We do many community service projects and give back to the community.”

And the best way to raise funds for all these activities is selling cookies.

“All profits from cookie sales stay local, so the girls use the cookie sales money to raise money for educational trips, for community service, for educational opportunities,” said Cassandra Phillips, chief marketing officer. and development at Girl Scouts of Louisiana.

These learning opportunities are around every corner for Girl Scouts. Over the past year, they’ve learned to think outside the box and find creative ways to sell cookies safely in the midst of a pandemic.

“It caused some really interesting innovations,” Phillips said. “We had drive-thru stalls which we will be featuring again this year. We had the digital platform for cookie sales, which exploded with the quantity ordered there.”

And if teaching young girls about people skills, business ethics, money management and goal setting isn’t enough, this year’s new cookie will inspire fans to seek out local Girl Scout troops by no time.

“It’s the adventure cookie,” Phillips said. “It’s a caramel brownie, so think of a crispy brownie filled with a caramel cream, drizzled with chocolate and just a tiny bit of fleur de sel, it’s very very good.”

To try this cookie or one of your favorites, you can pre-order through a local troupe online or from any Girl Scout in person until February 10. Deliveries will begin on February 11.

Booth sales, with Girl Scouts outside grocery stores and other locations, will also begin on February 11.
