After completing all other procedures in Kathmandu, Sujan Chaulagain arrived in Delhi for her interview to travel to Poland. In the interview, he found out that he would only earn Rs 50,000 a month there. To someone who had come to the interview thinking he would earn 150,000 rupees, it was a real shock.

He was 24 at the time. His income from running an electronics store in Nepal was also good. But he thought about going abroad, thinking that it would be easier to earn and save a lot of money. After his interview, he decided not to go abroad, but adopted a new idea, started earning three times as much in Nepal and became self-sufficient.

Even after his interview, he remained in Delhi for about two months. There, since he had already thought about doing something in Nepal, he spends the time thinking about what to do and what has the most benefits.

One day he stumbled upon a modern laundry business: going house to house and hauling laundry. He believed that business could be good in Nepal, with less investment and more profits. And, he returned to Nepal with the same plan. This is how Smart Dhobi Nepal was born as a startup.

Respect for work

When he came to Nepal and surveyed the market for himself, he didn’t see many laundries that were operating commercially. Then he finally decided to start the business.

But at first, many questions arose in front of him. Meanwhile, family and friends ridiculed him for “demoting” himself from a trader to a launderer. Yet he did not deviate from his plan and launched Smart Dhobi Nepal.

Chaulagain says: “During my time in Delhi, I realized that no job is big or small. I believe that any work done in a professional manner can make more money which is why I am engaged in this business.

He came to Kathmandu at the age of eight, and here he gained experience from an early age, sometimes working in marketing and sometimes in his own e-shop.

Smart Dhobi Nepal assures customers of providing quality service at an affordable price.

He became addicted to money and that is the reason he started Smart Dhobi Nepal. Thinking that he could make a lot of money all at once, he quit his company and began to move abroad. “Money is never enough, we always want to earn more. As there were no savings, I wanted to go abroad. But, I think today that I was destined to work in my own country.

After returning to Nepal from New Delhi, he first leased land to Nayabasti from Buddha. He built a makeshift hut with two washing machines and opened the Smart Dhobi Nepal office next door. When he finished settling in he found out he had spent Rs 800,000.

Now the business has grown and its investment has been over two million rupees.

The investment was made, but there was a problem finding a market for Smart Dhobi Nepal. He said, “If someone orders the washing, the money will come. But since it was a new job, finding new clients was not easy. He then created a Facebook page, kept his own number, and started taking orders.

“First, it was difficult to get new customers. Second, it is difficult to create an environment in which visitors remember the business. Therefore, we decided to provide services all over Kathmandu Valley. After that, the number of service seekers started to increase.

The service search process

Besides washing and drying, Smart Dhobi Nepal also offers ironing services.
Besides washing and drying, Smart Dhobi Nepal also offers ironing services.

At present, there are two ways to use the services of Smart Dhobi Nepal. Orders can be placed either by texting the Smart Dhobi Nepal Facebook page or by calling the number listed on the page. Chaulagain says there is no charge for collecting or delivering clothing anywhere in the valley.

“After contacting the users, we arrange the appropriate time for the service seekers and pick up the clothes as they see fit,” he said, adding, “According to their needs, we clean and dry, dry wash or clean and iron And, in the next two days, we will deliver the clothes to them.

There is a charge of Rs 130 per kg for washing and drying, and Rs 200 per kg for ironing. But, in the case of evening wear that requires more care, the fees are a bit higher.

Chaulagain says Smart Dhobi Nepal only takes the charges after service seekers have verified and are satisfied with their services.

So what’s the difference between traditional laundry and digital laundry? In response, Chaulagain from Smart Dhobi Nepal said, “Both of them are doing the laundry. But, this is a more systematic and professional laundry service. It has different characteristics.

But, Chaulagain ensures that there is no reason to doubt the quality of the detergent because they manufacture it themselves and the clothes are cleaned with drinking water.
