Erica Benites Giese will present at the Greater San Antonio Ethics and Compliance Roundtable Fall Symposium – Jackson Walker


Partner of Jackson Walker Erica Benites Giese is scheduled to present at the Greater San Antonio Ethics and Compliance Roundtable Fall Symposium held at St. Mary’s University Greehey School of Business on October 27, 2022.

Launched in 2007, the Greater San Antonio Ethics and Compliance Roundtable invites senior executives from St. Mary’s University to discuss ethics issues in their organizations. Since its inception, the roundtable has given St. Mary’s students the opportunity to learn from experienced business leaders with high integrity.

During the roundtable, Erica will discuss:

  • Current trends in white collar crime.
  • Case histories representative of white collar crimes, particularly with respect to how issues were revealed (e.g. audit, whistleblowers, hotline, etc.), how the quality of the control environment and the Board oversight in organizations took into account the situation, the broader impacts of white-collar crime on organizations and their stakeholders, and the influence of organizational culture and values, where applicable.
  • Lessons learned for organizations and ethics and compliance programs, including the top three steps organizations can take effectively to prevent and detect white-collar crime.

Meet Erica

Before joining Jackson Walker Investigations and white collar defense group, Erica served as Assistant United States Attorney for the Western District of Texas. In this role, she served as head of the financial litigation unit and of the San Antonio and Del Rio divisions. She also led the creation of a Suspicious Activity Report Review team in the San Antonio and Del Rio Divisions, which provided her with a wealth of knowledge on anti-corruption compliance issues. money laundering for financial institutions.

In her practice, Erica handles white collar civil and criminal investigations and litigation, who tam complaints and investigations, health care fraud cases, government contract fraud investigations, bank and wire fraud investigations, and workplace law enforcement of immigrants. She helps clients navigate the daunting task of responding to civil, criminal and administrative subpoenas, including civil investigative requests. Erica also advises and defends individuals and companies who are victims of fraud. Certified Fraud Examiner, she is equipped to handle all types of fraud and internal investigation matters. Since 2019, Scene in South Africa recognized Erica as one of the “top SA attorneys” in criminal defense. Erica has tried over 100 cases before juries across Texas.

Outside of Jackson Walker, Erica volunteers with the National Hispanic Bar Association as Deputy President of Region XII and as a member of the Compliance and Ethics Section. She is also actively involved with the US District Court Admissions Committee, the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, the Women’s White Collar Defense Section of the American Bar Association, and the Federal Bar Association’s San Antonio Chapter.
