DOE Restarts DUF6 Conversion at Portsmouth, Paducah Facilities | New


The two conversion plants of the United States Department of Energy’s Office of Environmental Management that recycle depleted uranium hexafluoride (DUF6) into safer and more beneficial products have resumed operations with safety and sustainability measures improved after an operational pause related to COVID-19.

“The DUF6 conversion is now back online, with improved safety, performance and facilities through the deliberate conduct of operations and maintenance during the safety break,” said Joel Bradburne, Project Office Manager Portsmouth/Paducah (PPPO) of EM, which oversees the project. .
