GUNTUR: Chirala Green Leaf Threshing Plant, ITC’s largest threshing plant, which provides job opportunities for local people and helps farmers, has reached a historic milestone of 100 years.

Speaking on the occasion, SBU General Manager, Agri Business and Leaf Tobacco Business, ITC Ramaprasad said that the state-of-the-art Chirala plant has been a pioneer in the fields of energy conservation, mechanization, automation and digitization, and is known as a testing ground for breakthrough innovations.

Since the establishment of the factory in 1922, this factory has played a major role in the employment of the local population and the economic growth of the region.

He said the plant has adopted several sustainable energy practices, including a low-carbon growth path, and is running on green energy through ITC’s 46MW wind farm at Anatapur. The plant aims to achieve a renewable energy share of 94% in 2029-2039, compared to 2% in 2018-19. The unit is also an example in waste management, recycling more than 99% of its waste generated, Ramaprasad informed.

The plant has won several environmental safety awards and also received the Sarva Sreshta Puraskar Gold Award from the National Safety Council. It received the British Safety Council’s Sword of Honor award for 14 years and also won the Platinum award for systematic and sustainable energy performance from the Society of Energy Engineers and Managers, among others, he added.
He congratulated the farmers, customers, partners and employees for their contribution to achieving this milestone and encouraged them to work for an even better future and the conservation of the ecosystem.
